6 week Beginners course.

Start from the beginning and finish with a skirt and lots of new skills!

Week 1

Introduction to a Sewing machine

Different stitches and their uses

Sewing straight lines

Sewing round corners

Different types of fabric and needles


Week 2

Make a tote bag

Measuring and cutting fabric

Identifying the grain of fabric and other useful sewing terms

Applique a motif

Hemming and finishing off

Week 3

Make a zipped pouch

Practice putting in a zip

Top stitching

Also learn different techniques – darts, gathers, French seams, stay stitch, under stitching, clipping and notching and button holes

 Week 4

Accomplish all the essential processes that you need to know in order to start making your own clothes

Complete / refresh anything from previous lesson

Reading commercial patterns – fabric requirements including suitable fabrics

Body measurements vs pattern measurements

Seam allowances

How to transfer a pattern so it can be used again in a multiple of sizes

 ***  bring fabric of your choice and matching thread. Pattern New Look 6843,  a 7" zip and a button ***

Week 5

Using all the skills acquired make an A-line skirt

Tracing a pattern and cutting out of fabric

Start sewing the skirt


Week 6

Sew together skirt!

Don't forget once you have mastered the skills and made a skirt you can make many more!
Oh and then come back  and build on your skills and learn how to make something else. 

We usually stop for a cuppa' so please bring a mug
